A little more about the classes…..

Unique Curriculum
Jean has carefully developed a unique curriculum which enables every video and class to be structured to help build confidence and skills like listening, concentrating and following simple instructions. As the little ones get older the videos further support early learning by introducing colours, numbers, shapes etc. All the videos support the Government's Foundation Stage Framework.

Core Values and beliefs of classes

1.Help children learn key early learning skills

2. Foster a love of music and dancing

3. Help build confidence and enable little's ones to join in the activities independently

The R's behind the classes:
*Rhyme & Rhythm
The aim is to foster a love of music and movement through the activities and very carefully selected nursery rhymes, number songs & action songs.
Research has shown that music has a positive influence on young
children's cognitive skills. (Nemours Foundation)

*Repetition
Repetition is fundamental to children’s learning, therefore the music & songs run in 5 week cycles to ensure everyone benefits from repeating the same songs & has a real chance to learn.
“Few things build a child's brain and open opportunities for learning more than consistent repetition." Sean Brotherson
*Routine
Following the same pattern of activities each week really helps the children to feel secure and this builds confidence which in turn enables them to join in more actively & independently.
"Regular patterns of activity create routine and foster a sense of security and
self-confidence" Steiner

The Magical Music and Movement Curriculum
The Magical Music & Movement Curriculum has been carefully developed and structured with the 3 R's in mind and also so that the following Early Learning Goals can be encouraged through the classes and videos:

Communication and Language
ELG 01 Listening and attention: Children listen attentively in a range of situations. They
listen to stories, accurately anticipating key events and respond to what they hear
with relevant comments, questions or actions.
ELG 02 Understanding: Children follow instructions involving several ideas or actions.

Physical Development

ELG 04 Moving and handling: Children show good control and coordination in large and
small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating
space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

ELG 06 Self-confidence and self-awareness: Children are confident to try new activities,
and to say why they like some activities more than others.
ELG 07 Managing feelings and behaviour: They work as part of a class,
and understand and follow rules.

Literacy

ELG 09 Reading: Children begin to use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately.

Mathematics
ELG 11 Numbers: Children count with numbers from 1 to 10, place them in order
and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
ELG 12 Shape, space and measures: Children use everyday language to talk about size,
weight, capacity, position, shape.

Understanding of the World
ELG 14 The world: Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places,
objects, materials and living things. They make observations of animals.
ELG 16 Exploring and using media and materials: Children sing songs, make music
and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. They safely use and
explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour,
design, texture, form and function.
